BENZ TEMPERATURE RETRACTION TESTER MEASURES EFFECTS OF TEMPERATURE ON RUBBER AND PLASTIC The Benz TR 2200 temperature retraction tester measures the effects of low temperature on rubber, plastic and other elastomeric materials.

PROVIDENCE, RI - The Benz TR 2200 temperature retraction tester measures the effects of low temperature on rubber, plastic and other elastomeric materials.

Meeting and exceeding ISO 2921 and ASTM D-1329, the TR 2200 allows the accurate evaluation of crystallization and the comparison of rubber and rubber-like sample viscosity at low temperatures.

An operator stretches a sample, often to 50%, 100%, 150% or 200% of the original length, cools it in a bath solution like methanol or silicone grease, then releases the sample and allows it to retract.

Windows-compatible Benzwin software, supplied free with the TR tester, allows retraction point calculation and comparison. Readings are presented real-time and saved.

A single sample can be analyzed in different conditions, and different samples can be compared.

The Benz TR 2200 reports an elastomer low limit operating temperature. It also details a samples percentage of retraction at different temperatures. And it allows the determination of a temperature range in which a sample is elastic.

The Benz TR 2200 is often used with a Benz BPT 2100, a high accuracy brittlepoint tester, to gauge a materials suitability for low temperature use.

A special attribute of the Benz TR 2200 is its ability to be programmed so that the operator can select not only temperature retraction points but the end point of testing, shortening testing time.

A standard feature, not an option, is liquid nitrogen control, which results in highly accurate controlled temperatures and reduces operator intervention.

Sample lengths changes are determined to an accuracy of ±0.001 inches.

The TR 2200Õs unique sample holder reduces temperature deviation when a sample is immersed in its bath.

Attractively constructed of hard-coated anodized aluminum and stainless steel, the Benz TR 2200 carries an extensive one-year parts and labor warranty.

It operates at 110/220 volts, 1 amp AC power and needs only 3 square feet of counter space.

It is available directly from the manufacturer, Benz Materials Testing Instruments, 73 Maplehurst Ave., Providence, Rhode Island 02908. Phone 401.331.5650, fax 401.331.5685 or email engineering@benztesters.com.

Benz Mooney Viscometer MV 2100 Measures Viscosity and Curing Characteristics of Rubber and Plastics The new Benz Mooney Viscometer (MV 2100) measures and records the viscosity of natural and synthetic rubber and plastic elastomers, including raw or compounded rubber. It is also used to determine the curing characteristics of compounded rubber.

PROVIDENCE, RI: The new Benz Mooney Viscometer (MV 2100) measures and records the viscosity of natural and synthetic rubber and plastic elastomers, including raw or compounded rubber. It is also used to determine the curing characteristics of compounded rubber.
More than a simple viscometer, the Benz MV 2100 is a computer data acquisition system, with digital P.I.D. temperature controls, realtime display of torque vs. time, data storage for statistical evaluation, and data manipulation. It runs on Windows 95, NT, 98, ME, 2000 and XP.

The MV 2100 accepts a sample of the elastomer, usually 11 grams, in a melt chamber and heats it to 212°F (100°c). Pre-heating is timed to maintain consistency of initial viscosity readings. The viscometer’s serrated shearing disk, rotating at 2 rpm and developing torque on the sample up to 200 inch pounds (200dN•M), causing the sample to flow. The necessary amount of torque is measured and is read on an x-y graph on the personal computer monitor.

Measurements are recorded on the PC, using Benz’ proprietary Benzwin 2000 software, which is included with the MV 2100. When the sample's viscosity falls to a level reading, the engineer or quality control operator knows both the torque and the time required to reach that minimum viscosity. Among other things, the level indicates if the compound has been properly mixed, with ingredients in their proper proportions.

The Benz MV 2100 also performs scorch tests in which, at 320°F (160°c), the liquid sample cures. The MV 2100 measures and records the amount of time a sample will last in a mold before it is scorched and its elastomeric properties are lost. The Benz MV 2100 is also used to record stress relaxation, measuring the amount of stress energy (resilience) remains in a sample after the spinning rotor is stopped. Plasticity is graphed and recorded in inch pounds (dN•M).

The Benz MV 2100 meets ASTM D1638 and other national and international standards. Like other Benz elastomeric testing instruments, such as the Benz Brittle Point Tester and the Benz Melt Flow Tester, The Benz Mooney Viscometer is commonly used by companies manufacturing or testing chemica l compounds, technical service centers, original equipment manufacturers and others concerned with product quality, consistency, safety and durability.

Constructed of aluminum and high strength steel, it requires 20 x 22 inches (50x55 cm) of counter space and runs on 110 V or 220 V. An 80 psi (4 bar) air pressure system holds the sample chamber closed during the tests. The Benz Mooney Viscometer MV 2100 costs about $25,000 and is available from the manufacturer, Benz Materials Testing Instruments, 73 Maplehurst Ave., Providence, RI 02908. PROVIDENCE, RI: The new Benz Specific Gravity Tester (SG 2100) quickly and accurately measures and records the specific gravity of elastomeric compounds, enabling researchers and quality control engineers to determine the presence and percentages of compound components.

The SG 2100 automatically measures the dry weight of a sample compound, then it's wet weight, and then computes the specific gravity of the sample to the nearest thousandth.

Used in conjunction with a Benz rheometer to test the cure rate, a Benz viscometer to test viscosity, a Benz durometer to test hardness and a Benz tensile tester to determine tensile strength, the SG 2100 allows complete analysis of the elastomer to be tested.

The SG 2100 runs on Windows 95, NT, 98, ME, 2000 and XP, and can determine a sample's specific gravity, even if the bath is not pure water. Using Benz' proprietary Benzwin 2000 software, included with the SG 2100, a quality control analyst or researcher can correct for bath fluids with a density that is not 1.000, just by entering in the density at startup. This eliminates discrepancies caused by not calculating for different bath fluid densities.

With the Benzwin 2000 software, the Benz Specific Gravity Tester can also display, store and compare data to previous test results. It can, in conjunction with a Benz block oven, compute the percentage of volume swell, indicating if elements of a compound have been driven off, or if outside elements have been absorbed. This is particularly important in determining the properties of the compound in its final use; compounds that absorb oils, for example, might well be unsuitable for seals, piston rings or gaskets.

The SG 2100 conforms to ASTM D471 (Rubber Properties' Effect of Liquids) and ASTM D865 (Rubber's Deterioration). Built of anodized aluminum and stainless steel, the Benz Specific Gravity Tester features a mechanical stop to prevent weight overloads. It carries an extensive one-year parts and labor warranty.

Only six inches wide, it preserves counter space. It stands 20 inches high and accomodates beakers up to 250 ml. It costs about $5,000 and is available directly from the manufacturer, Benz Materials Testing Instruments, 73 Maplehurst Ave., Providence, Rhode Island 02908. Phone 401.331.5650 or fax 401.331.5685.

PROVIDENCE, RI: Benz Materials Testing Instruments is offering a tensile tester that measures textiles, rubber, thin films, foils, leather, wire, plastics, composites and light metals.

The TT2100 Tensile Tester is unique in that it can show realtime force and elongation on a computer monitor as the force and elongation values change. It can immediately print out the values on X and Y axes for further study of the testing results. "Stress and strain analysis no longer requires interminable repeat testing and calculating," said Ted Benz, president of Benz Materials Testing Instruments. "The TT2100 saves incredible time and allows engineers to determine exactly how they want materials to be constructed or what materials flunk their tests."

In addition to tensile testing, the Benz TT2100 tests tear strength, peel strength, adhesion, coefficient of friction, burst, proofload and stress relaxation. Custom variations of the TT2100 are available for unique testing applications.

The Benz TT2100 tester is currently in demand by production managers, quality controllers and researchers, he said. The TT2100 operates on Windows 95, NT, 98, ME, 2000 and XP software and is offered with a Pentium PC.

Although compact, requiring less than two square feet of counter space, the TT2100 tests at substantial levels _ up to 250 lbf. This equates to 11,250 psi on a sample measuring .0250" x 0.080". Benz also manufactures tensile testers with capacities as high as 10,000 lbf.

A number of grips for different types of material are available. Fixtures, adapters, temperature chambers and high-elongation extensometers are also available.
